Here Comes The Boom Review

From Box Office......

I do not own this picture/poster. Here Comes The Boom and/or Fandango owns it all.

If Viola Davis could throw a punch, Won't Back Down would have ended a lot differently. But Kevin James cankindaso instead of fighting teacher's unions, this month's second flick about failing schools has a different solution: make the biology teacher fight MMA. (Though that means facing 205 lb heavyweight Krzysztof Soszynski, James may have the easier task.) Here Comes the Boom is Rocky for fifth graders, with enough pro-school propaganda to make parents think it's worth the price of popcorn. Like James in the ring, it doesn't pack a lot of power, but it comes out swinging and sweats for applause. Boom won't be a box office knockout, but if it hits its target audience of preteens, it can leave theaters a humble success.

From The Basketball Overload.....

The 2012-2013 season is still just under two months from beginning with the NBA's preseason, but the offseason has reached a dry period, with potentially the only big block yet to fall being Dwight Howard.  Now is an ideal time to review what each team has done in an attempt to better position themselves for either next season or for future seasons (hey...Daryl Morey).  Basically I'll just look at each teams best move and conversely their worst move and then summarize their offseason up to this point, grades and all.

NBA 2k13 Review

I do not own this picture/cover. NBA 2k13  and/or Gamestop owns it.
From NY Daily News
LOVED IT: MyCareer RPG experience is even more in-depth, fluid controls simplify key on-court actions, solid presentation
HATED IT: Game does poor job of teaching, lousy menu system, some overdone presentation flourishes
GRAB IT IF: You love hoops
They didn't need to change a thing. And yet, they changed just about everything.
Visual Concepts entered this year with a tried-and-true formula for a basketball video game. For years, the NBA 2K series has been built on a handful of pillars — a deliberate on-court pace, an immersive RPG element, and a realistic dynasty piece — and these pieces have routinely led to success. Why mess with it, right?
Wrong, decided Visual Concepts. And the end product is NBA 2K13, the most immersive sports game this year. From the on-court experience to the off-court life to the recent integration of hip-hop into the NBA culture, this game wants to draw you in. And even if Jay-Z hadn't lent his production skills to the presentation (and done a highly overrated job, by the way), NBA 2K13 would have been a rousing success.

Hotel Translyania Review

I do not own this picture/poster. Hotel Translvania and/or Collider owns it.
From Indiewire.....

For some reason (and we're convinced it was a cosmic misunderstanding), the various studios are releasing three horror-themed animated films in three consecutive months. Last month, we got the marvelous (and unfairly marginalized) "ParaNorman," next month we have Tim Burton's triumphant "Frankenweenie," and this week we have "Hotel Transylvania," about a gothic safe haven for all manner of things that go bump in the night. To set itself apart from the pack, "Hotel Transylvania" has opted to forgo any intentional spookiness and focus purely on comedy – mostly of the broad, physical variety. And while "Hotel Transylvania" doesn't have the eeriness or resonance of the other two films, it is admirably energetic – a pinball machine of a movie, one that's painted with cartoon monsters and really, really loud.
